Educational Programs at Heritage Elementary Back-to-Basics Academics: At Heritage Elementary School, we are committed to helping children achieve their full academic potential. This is accomplished through traditional instruction in core curriculum by a qualified teaching staff. We follow Arizona State Standards in education. Family Values Focus: At Heritage, we place emphasis on teaching family values, utilizing the Character Counts! program, aimed at developing character in children. Students are taught about six pillars of character that will help them both academically and socially: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Acuity Online Assessment Program: Heritage teachers use this online program once a month to assess each student’s academic progress. The program helps teachers determine a student’s strengths and areas for improvement so work can be targeted to his or her individual needs. Heritage Elementary has two on-site computer labs – one for the student computer curriculum and one for the Acuity Online Assessment Program. Saxon Math: The Saxon Math program is backed by extensive research and more than 30 years of proven success. Saxon Math utilizes three primary teaching principles: incremental development, continual practice and review, and cumulative assessment. Spalding Phonics: Heritage Elementary teaches K-6 language arts (spelling, writing and reading) based on the Spalding Method, a scientifically based language arts program shown to effectively enhance early literacy performance. The Spalding Method encourages clear, interactive, multisensory instruction that is tailored to each child’s needs. |
